Part of Me: Azalea’s Story
Azalea spent so much of her life dealing with mental health struggles. It took her 30 years to figure out who she really is, taking agency and recreating her own identity. While some of us might see struggles as wasted time, Azalea sees the hardships she has been through as an integral part of her entirety.
“I may be flawed. But everything I’ve went through. All these things I could just see as wasted time or suffering, (but) they are just part of me.”
To remind herself how this unique experience has helped her become a more proactive person, Azalea wishes to tell the story of her life through a very personal tattoo.
“This is all reflected in the crystal heart symbol – I was a person who was shattered into pieces, who was flawed and broken. And while it took me many years, I have joined my heart back together. And the azalea, the flower is related to both my name and my transition and gender identity. It was learning to feel and love again that was part of my healing, something I associate with organic things like flowers and vines.”
Tattoo People is honoured to be a part of Azalea’s journey and storytelling. Thank you, Azalea, for sharing your wonderful story with us!
